Shelf exploration – the main strategic challenge of Russia in the XXI century

Today, 15th of September in St-Petersburg the 12th International conference and exhibition for Oil and Gas Resources Development of the Russian Arctic and CIS Continental Shelf RAO/CIS Offshore 2015 started. It is an event of 20-years history, which began with leading scientists and largest world-wide oil-gas companies. And these days the Northern capital of Russia is visited by representatives of the largest companies-subsoil users from Russia, Middle and Far Abroad, the heads of profile Ministries and Committees, scientists and experts in a field of geological research and oil-gas production.

According to the moderator of the Plenary section, managing director of Boston Consulting Group Irina Gayda, in spite of complex review of investing strategies and aggravated situation in a sphere  of new oil- and gas-fields research, the development of continental shelf is a most perspective way of this industrial branch development in future.

With Irina Gayda all the participants of the section was agreed. Deputy Minister of energy of Russia Kirill Molodtsov underlined: “Today Russia has the best in the world conditions for geological exploration and resources mining. This work is closely connected with high reputation risks, high level of expenses, but the Government gives outstanding tax preferences for everybody, who organizes this researching. It is the main way of the branch development”.

According to the experts’ opinion, there are a lot of reasons for optimism. In modern conditions Russia has an opportunity to enlarge the level of oil and gas mining till 2030-2035. And it will contribute to the gap reduction after world leaders – USA, Norway, Canada.
